Polson · Community Guide
Polson, the south shore.
The town at the foot of Flathead Lake, where the Mission Mountains stand up out of the water and the lake is at its widest.
The Place
Where the lake ends.
Polson sits on the south end of Flathead Lake, on Polson Bay, with the Flathead River leaving the lake just west of town. The Mission Mountains rise straight from the eastern shore to over nine thousand feet. It is the warmest, driest part of the lake and the part with the longest views.
The town is within the Flathead Indian Reservation, home of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, which shapes the land here in ways that matter to a buyer: ownership, water, and shoreline permitting all follow their own rules. We work through them with you.
Living Here
Water, orchards, light.
Properties range from in-town homes and bay-front lots to east-shore lakefront under the Missions, west-shore acreage with sunrise views across the water, and ranch and orchard land in the Mission Valley to the south. Boating is the local habit; the lake here is open, deep, and quieter than the north end.
Missoula is an hour and change south along the river; Kalispell and the airport are about the same to the north. Polson is the hinge between the two.
Around Town
What’s on.
The Flathead Cherry Festival, Fourth of July fireworks over the bay, the Parade of Lights — the Chamber keeps the calendar, so we point you there rather than keep our own.

The south shore is where the Whitefish-to-Darby range turns a corner. We know both sides of it.
